How to Increase Bookings for my Holiday Cottage

I was signed up with one of the big agents, so why wasn't I getting enough bookings?

With similar promises from 3 large booking agents that my gorgeous coastal property would generate £40k annual turnover and around 50 bookings a year It came as a bit of a shock when the bookings did not come in.

With a marketing qualification and design skills, I decided to take the bull by the horns and market my holiday let myself. Step one was to creating a memorable brand for my holiday cottage. This is such an easy thing to do and so often overlooked by the majority of small businesses.  Let me explain why a memorable brand is crucial to generating the easiest sort of bookings, repeat bookings...

How many cottages have you stayed in over the last 10 years and how many of their names can you remember? For me it was just 1 out of around 20 different properties. Admittedly, my memory is not great and some were unremarkable, but a few stood out and were worthy of a return visit if I could just remember what they were called???

The one property that we did return to around 6 times had a memorable name 'Lemon Cottage' and good branding. There were lemon soaps, lemon coloured coasters a lemon coloured kettle and lemon references in all the rooms. SURPRISE, SUPRISE! I remembered 'Lemon Cottage' when it was time to re-book.

What can you learn from this post? Don't be a lemon (or maybe do, although that name is already taken now) invest in a good logo and good branding to start reaping the rewards of repeat booking now.
